Subject:         PRODUCT NOTICE - Disconnecting or connecting the battery while charging and connecting multiple chargers

The power board on a MiR robot at a customer location was damaged when a cable charger and a charging station were both connected, and the battery was disconnected at the same time.

MiR robots are provided with a battery disconnect to allow isolation of energy for maintenance or battery swapping. MiR robots also include two connections for charging; a plug/receptacle connection to connect a cable charger and charging contacts located on the bottom of the robot for a charging station. The power board is not designed to facilitate charging from two sources at the same time, and harmful electrical surges can be created if the battery is disconnected or reconnected while charging.

Do not disconnect and connect the battery while the robot is charging. Disconnecting or connecting the battery while a charger is connected can damage the power board.

Do not connect a cable charger and a charging station at the same time. Connecting two chargers at the same time can damage the power board.

WARNING
Disconnecting the battery while a charger is connected or connecting two battery chargers simultaneously can create electrical surges that damage the power board and render the robot inoperable.

To prevent this situation:

  1. Never disconnect the battery when a charger is connected
  2. Never connect the battery when a charger is connected
  3. Never connect a cable charger and a charging station at the same time
  4. Only use approved chargers provided by MiR
